Rainy October ends with a final gentle shower
The big picture: Friday October 30th brought gentle and long duration rain across the Permian Basin. The rain started around 11pm Thursday night and it drizzled and gently rained until 2pm Friday afternoon.
MAF airport recorded 1.65 inches and Air Park 1.45 inches through the period. Weather stations around town recorded 1.1 inches on the western portion of town up to 1.35 inches on the south. This rain event was in sharp contrast to the storm two weeks prior where over 2.5 inches were dumped in less than an hour, showing the variety of weather that can come living on the high plains.
That brings the total for the month to about 2.6 in at MAF & 3.5 in at Air Park, with weather stations around town recording between a low of 2.8 south of town to 4.7 inches in the northern portion of Midland. Total rainfall at MAF this year is about 10.1 inches and 8.9 inches at Air Park per NOAA.
What’s next: October rain has given way to fall weather. The early November forecast might be fairly dry but fall is here with highs in the low 70’s and lows in the high 40’s.
