What happened: A day of cornhole, food, family activities, and fundraising is set for Saturday, June 6, as Agents in Action hosts its Cornhole Tournament to benefit two Midland families facing significant medical challenges. The fundraiser will take place from noon to 7 p.m. at Cuthbert Mansion, 3207 W. Cuthbert Ave., with the tournament beginning at 1 p.m.

The big picture: This year’s event will support the Vargas and Wolf families while bringing the community together for a day of friendly competition and community support. According to organizers, the event will feature a cornhole tournament, food and drinks, auction items, children’s activities, and prizes for first- and second-place tournament winners.

Stevie Vargas, a Marine veteran, former Texas State Trooper, and Midland police officer, was recently diagnosed with a brain tumor and is currently undergoing treatment at MD Anderson Cancer Center. He and his wife are raising four children, including two sons with autism, while his wife works as a special education teacher and assistant softball coach at Andrews ISD.

James Wolf serves with the Midland Fire Department and as chief of the Northeast Volunteer Fire Department. Shortly after the birth of their daughter, Josephina, the family learned she had multiple serious medical conditions requiring extensive treatment and surgeries. The family has temporarily relocated to Fort Worth while she continues receiving care at Cook Children’s Hospital.
