Greenwood track sends 12 to state after regional success

What happened: Greenwood track and field is headed to Austin after a strong UIL Class 4A Regionals meet, qualifying 12 athletes for the state meet on May 14. Both the boys’ and girls’ programs earned multiple top-four finishes, with state qualifiers in sprints, hurdles, relays, jumps, and throws. The girls’ team finished 7th overall, and the boys ‘ team finished 3rd overall.
Go deeper: Dylan Payton led the way, winning the 300-meter hurdles in 37.87 to secure an automatic state berth. He also helped Greenwood’s 4×200 relay team finish third in 1:27.02 alongside Hyden McNutt, Kayden Alford, and Mason Lee.
The relays were a major strength overall. The 4×400 team of Payton, Aaron Carrillo, Kasen Brooks, and Andrick Rodriguez placed second in 3:19.65, while the 4×100 and 4×200 squads both finished inside the top five.
Individually, Andrick Rodriguez placed fifth in the 400 meters (49.57), Austin Snodgrass finished fifth in the high jump (6-2), and Payton added another strong performance in the long jump, placing second at 22-7. Greenwood also picked up additional scoring points in the throwing events to stay competitive across the board.
Kealani Weeks highlighted the girls’ side, placing third in the 200 meters (24.58) to earn a state qualifying spot. She also anchored the 4×200 relay team of Ava McIntyre, Addyson Adame, and Sidnee Click, which finished second in 1:41.87.
Sidnee Click added an eighth-place finish in the 100 meters (12.62), while Andree Baer qualified in both hurdles events, placing sixth in the 100 hurdles (15.34) and fifth in the 300 hurdles (46.24). The 4×400 relay team also contributed with an eighth-place finish in 4:05.57, helping round out Greenwood’s team points.
