What to watch: The Midland College Board of Trustees meets Tuesday, Nov. 18, with updates on enrollment, a presentation from the welding program, a policy update required for Texas community colleges, and a resolution honoring a standout Midland College golfer.
Key points:
- Welding program: Trustees will receive an update on the college’s welding program. These division presentations typically highlight enrollment trends, program growth, workforce partnerships, student certifications, and changes in industry demand.
- Enrollment update: President Damon Kennedy will provide updated enrollment numbers. These reports usually include fall headcount, dual-credit participation, year-over-year comparisons, and spring-semester projections.
- TASB legal update: Trustees will review the Texas Association of School Boards (TASB) Legal Update 50, a large policy update that folds new state and federal laws into the college’s board policies. The changes include board governance and shared governance with faculty, curriculum and degree program reviews, elections and bond rules, cybersecurity and data reporting, budgets and audits, and student and employee rights.
- Golf honor: Trustees will consider a resolution recognizing Midland College golfer Scott Spark for his achievements at the 2025 Grier Jones Shocker Invitational, where he finished second with a three-day total of 207. His performance helped the Chaparrals place fifth, highest among all junior college teams at the event.
The resolution from Rep. Tom Craddick congratulates Spark for his accomplishments and recognizes him as one of the most decorated golfers in Midland College history. Spark, originally from Oldmeldrum, Scotland, has built an exceptional record at Midland College.
