Season Recap: MCA Girls Basketball advances to Regional round
The Midland Classical Academy girls basketball team made a deep playoff run during the 2024-2025 season, advancing to the Regional round of the postseason. The Lady Knights also posted an impressive 30-4 overall record.
This MCA squad set the tone early in the year and cruised to 10-0 through the first month of the season. That was then followed by the team’s longest win streak of the season. Midland Classical started by knocking off #10 Spearman at the Denver City Tournament, 41-36, and then stacked 16 straight victories, winning all but one non-district game.
During that stretch, the Lady Knights collected some hardware at a couple of tourneys. MCA won the Keene Tournament in November with victories over Venus, Life Waxahachie, Keene, Itasca, and Sulphur Springs in three days. Mariah Davis was named the Tournament MVP, and Addie Dunn made the All-Tournament team. The Tall City squad also won the Borden County Tournament with wins over Robert Lee, Borden County, O’Donnell, and Trinity Christian.
The hot streak bled into the TAPPS 4A District I competition. The Lady Knights tipped off the slate with a 6-0 record, including two wins over Midland Trinity. The highlight of league play came against Lubbock Christian in round one. MCA went on the road and knocked off the eventual District and State Champions 69-62. The Lady Eagles got revenge later in the season with a couple of wins. The Midland team capped off the league schedule with a second-placed finish, a 9-2 record in district, and a spot in the playoffs.
Midland Classical dominated Prince of Peace in the Area round of the postseason. The Lady Knights won 71-16 to advance to the Regional round. MCA met a familiar opponent in the second round in Lake Country Christian, a team it had beaten two times earlier in the season. The Lady Knights couldn’t complete the season sweep and fell just one win short of the state tournament with the 57-45 loss.
MCA took a big step forward this year. Midland Classical increased its win total by 14 from the previous season and jumped to a spot in the final district standings from the 2023-2024 season.
