What to watch: The 34th annual AIRSHO soars into Midland on Sept. 6–7, at Midland International Air & Space Port. Get ready for vintage WWII aircraft, thrilling aerobatic performances, and the legendary “wall of fire.”

Why it matters: This year’s show carries special significance as it commemorates the 80th anniversary of victory in World War II. Headlining the weekend is “Doc,” the B-29 Superfortress, one of only two remaining worldwide. In addition, licensed pyrotechnic technicians will shake the ground with simulated bombing raids, strafing runs, and vibrant displays.

The big picture: Hosted by the Commemorative Air Force High Sky Wing, AIRSHO has become a Midland tradition, blending aviation history with community celebration. Get up close to the planes, witness breathtaking flying displays, and even book rides. Beyond the aircraft, visitors can experience “living history” groups representing World War II, Korea, and Vietnam. Encampments, military vehicles, and reenactors bring the past to life, offering a tangible reminder of sacrifice and service. For families, a Kids Zone is also included with bouncy houses, games, snow cones, and more.
