What happened: Midland fell 78–67 at home to Permian in their final district game on Tuesday, Feb. 17. Midland closed the season at 9–24 overall and 1–9 in district play and will not advance to the playoffs. Permian improved to 20–13 overall and finished 7–3 in district, placing third in 6A Region I District 2.

The big picture: Midland trailed 23–16 after the first quarter and went into halftime down 40–33. Permian extended the margin in the third quarter, pushing the lead to 57–47. The Panthers maintained control in the fourth and closed out the 11-point district road win.
