What happened: Midland’s growing mahjong community now has a dedicated gathering space with the launch of WTX Mahjong House, a locally owned studio offering lessons, league play, tournaments, and social events for players of all skill levels.

Founded in 2025, WTX Mahjong was created to combine the social side of mahjong with structured league play and tournament-style competition. Located at 3211 W. Wadley Ave., Suite 5A, the studio is the first mahjong-focused space in Midland.

The big picture: Mahjong has steadily grown in popularity across Midland in recent years, creating a community of players looking for opportunities to learn, compete, and connect. WTX Mahjong House was created to give that community a dedicated home for both social play and organized competition. Organizers say the goal is not only to teach the game but also to create community connections in a welcoming environment.

League play has become one of the studio’s biggest draws, with seasonal formats ranging from individual ladder competitions to team scrambles and weekly head-to-head matchups. The upcoming Summer League Scramble will run June 8 through Aug. 9 in a flexible nine-week ladder-style format.
