What happened: Midland dropped its district opener to Wolfforth Frenship, 52–18, on Friday, Jan. 9. The loss moved the Lady Bulldogs to 14–9 overall and 0–1 in district play, while Frenship improved to 18–8 overall and 1–0 in district.

The big picture: Frenship controlled the game from the opening quarter, taking an 8–0 lead after the first period. Midland struggled to find offense in the second quarter as Frenship extended its advantage to 25–4 at halftime. The Lady Tigers continued to build separation in the third quarter, pushing the margin to 39–8. The Lady Bulldogs picked it up in the fourth quarter, but it wasn’t enough to overcome Frenship’s total drive.

What’s next: Midland will continue district play with a home matchup against Permian (23–4 overall) on Tuesday, Jan. 13, with tipoff scheduled for 6 p.m.
