MISD meets state average in four of 18 STAAR subjects
What happened: Across all 2026 STAAR assessments in grades 3 through high school released so far, Midland ISD students met or exceeded the state average for students scoring at the “meets and above” level in just four grade-level subjects: 3rd through 6th-grade math.
Proficiency rates show how many students can read and do math at a level in line with expectations for their grade. Students who ‘meet’ or ‘master’ grade-level standards are on track to know what they should each year, and ultimately by the time they graduate.
Why it matters: MISD’s STAAR performance data raises concerns about long-term academic readiness as students progress without meeting grade-level standards, particularly in junior and high school subjects.
- Elementary schools: Eleven of the 27 elementary schools posted an average passing rate at or above the state’s average on the same tests: Ben Milam, Bowie, Bush, Carver, Fasken, Franks, Greathouse, Parker, Sam Houston, Santa Rita, and Scharbauer.
-
Junior highs: Two of the seven junior high schools posted an average passing rate at or above the state’s average on the same tests: San Jacinto and YWLA.
