What to know: Several local elected positions will appear on the Nov. 3 ballot, and interested candidates have until 5 p.m. Monday, Aug. 17, to file to run. With one week left in the filing period, 14 seats across four Midland taxing entities are up for election.

The filing period opened July 18 and includes seats on the Midland ISD, Midland College and Midland County Hospital District boards, plus the first general election for three voter-elected Midland Central Appraisal District board members.

The big picture: Here’s where each race stands with one week left to file:

  • Midland ISD: Three of the school board’s seven single-member districts are up for election. Candidates must live within the district they want to represent. Candidates can file in person at the central administration building at 615 W. Missouri Ave. from 8 a.m.–5 p.m. weekdays.
    • District 3 – Tommy Bishop, the board’s longest-serving trustee, has represented District 3 since 2006 and filed for reelection July 21. He is currently unopposed.
    • District 5 – The seat is currently held by Brandon Hodges. La’Toya Nix Mayberry, owner of Toya’s Precious Jewels Infant Center, filed July 31, and Karl Boroski, founder and executive director of Rope Youth, filed Aug. 7.
    • District 6 – Sara Burleson, who has represented the district since 2022, filed for reelection July 27 and is currently unopposed.
  • Midland College: Four of the college’s nine board seats are up for election. All are at-large, meaning candidates can live anywhere within the college district rather than having to live within a particular trustee district.
    • Place 3 – Currently held by Jacobe Kendrick, who was appointed to fill the remainder of longtime trustee Larry Lawrence’s term after Lawrence retired.
    • Place 7 – Currently held by Adrian Carrasco, who has served on the board since 2022.
    • Place 8 – Currently held by Scott Lynch, who has served since 2022.
    • Place 9 – Currently held by Scott Kidwell, who has served since 2022.
  • Midland County Hospital District: Four of the hospital’s seven board seats are up for election. Candidates must live within the district they seek to represent. Candidates can file in person at the district office at 400 Rosalind Redfern Grover Parkway from 8:30 a.m.–5 p.m. weekdays.
    • District 3 – Currently held by Tommy Flores.
    • District 4 – Currently held by Link Grimes.
    • District 7 – Currently held by Shannon Goldapp.
  • Midland Central Appraisal District: Three at-large seats are up for election in MCAD’s first general election for voter-elected directors. The Legislature’s 2023 property-tax overhaul added three publicly elected directors to the nine-member board that oversees the appraisal district.

All three seats are elected countywide, meaning voters throughout Midland County can vote in each race. Winners take office Jan. 1, 2027, for staggered four-year terms. Candidates file through the Midland County Elections Office.
