Six ways to commemorate the 25th anniversary of 9/11

What to watch: Midland has several ways to commemorate the 25th anniversary of the Sept. 11 attacks. Residents can visit a free 9/11 exhibition, attend a commemoration at the Bush Family Home, see two Midland Community Theatre productions, or participate in the annual Tall City Memorial Stair Climb and benefit concert.

The big picture:

• Ground Zero 360 Exhibit — Through Sept. 20, Monday–Saturday, 12–4 p.m.
  Midland Community Theater, 2000 W. Wadley Ave.
  This free exhibition is a traveling 9/11 remembrance show created for people who can’t visit the Sept. 11 Museum in New York. It includes work from over 40 artists with over 80 pieces, including photographs, paintings, missing-person flyers, first-responder memorabilia, personal effects from first responders, and authentic World Trade Center steel and granite that visitors can see up close.

• Bush Family Home Commemoration — Friday, Sept. 11, 10 a.m.
  Bush Family Home, 1412 W. Ohio St., near the flagpole
  The program includes a moment of silence, a short reflection, and memories and stories to honor all who were affected. The event is free and open to the public.

• Midland Community Theatres’ ‘The Guys’ — Thursday, Sept. 10, 7:30 p.m.; Saturday, Sept. 12, 7:30 p.m.; Thursday, Sept. 17, 7:30 p.m.; Saturday, Sept. 19, 7:30 p.m.
  Mabee Theater, 2000 W. Wadley Ave.
  Anne Nelson’s two-person play follows a fire captain who lost men on 9/11 and a writer helping him draft their eulogies. This deeply moving show emphasizes the weight the tragedy held on American hearts.

• Midland Community Theatres’ ‘Come From Away’ — Friday, Sept. 11, 7:30 p.m.; Saturday, Sept. 12, 1 p.m.; Sunday, Sept. 13, 2:30 p.m.; Friday, Sept. 18, 7:30 p.m.; Sunday, Sept. 20, 2:30 p.m.
  Mabee Theater, 2000 W. Wadley Ave.
  The Tony-winning musical tells the true story of Gander, Newfoundland, which took in thousands of stranded passengers when U.S. airspace closed on 9/11. The show is completely sold out, even after adding an extra performance due to popular demand. MCT offers a waitlist each night, and while it doesn’t guarantee a seat, it’s a last option for those eager to see the show.

• Tall City Memorial Stair Climb — Saturday, Sept. 12, 7 a.m.
  Astound Broadband Stadium, 801 N. Loop 250 W.
  All are invited to join firefighters, police, EMS, and military in climbing the equivalent of 110 floors, the height of the Twin Towers, to honor the 412 first responders who died that day. Midlands first responders often climb in full gear to further simulate the hardship. The climb is recommended for ages 12 and up.

• Tall City Benefit Concert — Saturday, Sept. 12, 7 p.m.
  Centennial Park, 200 W. Wall St.
  Family-friendly concert raising funds for the Professional Firefighters Association of Midland. The event will feature live music by William Clark Green, kids’ entertainment, food, drinks, and more.
