Midland sideswiped by regional rainstorm
The big picture: Monday October 26th brought a slow moving storm cell across the Permian Basin, hitting Midland with a small amount of rain. MAF airport recorded 0.17 inches and Air Park 0.14 inches. Weather stations around town recorded a relatively consistent 0.2 inches. Stations east of town including Greenwood recorded over 0.5 inches of rain.
That brings the total for the month to about 0.95 in at MAF & 2.09 in at Air Park, with weather stations around town recording between a low of 1.48 south of town to 3.44 inches in the northern portion of Midland.
The National Weather Service show the average for October to be around 1.6 inches. While this was a good month for rain in Midland, it does not compare to October of 1986 which recorded 7.45 inches.
What’s next: The rain may not be done yet in October. Thursday and Friday both continue to have chances of rain to continue the wet month Midlanders have been enjoying.
