Midland Christian girls basketball finished the 2024-2025 season at the top of the mountain. The Lady Mustangs brought the TAPPS 5A State Championship back to Midland for the first time since 1992.

MCS tipped off the championship campaign with a 13-6 record through non-district play. One of the biggest victories came against a ranked Levelland squad at home. The Lady Mustangs worked from behind, completed the comeback, and stole the 36-33 win from the Lady Lobos in December. These two programs squared off again in tournament play 10 days later, and Levelland won 44-27.

Midland Christian had no trouble handling district play, starting the slate on a six-game win streak. Head Coach Katie Voss Osborn and her squad only lost one league game all year, against All Saints, 38-34. The Lady Mustangs finished atop TAPPS 5A District 1 and earned the District Championship.

MCS set the tone for its deep playoff run in the first round with its 77-4 win over Brentwood Christian. The Midland group took down Hyde Park next with the 66-32 final score, culminating in a trip to the state tournament. The Lady Mustangs were tested in the state semi-final against the Lady Guard of Brook Hill in a low-scoring affair. Midland Christian gutted out the 36-26 win to move on to the state championship game. The 10-point score differential was the narrowest MCS had faced in 2025.

Midland Christian followed that performance up with a scorching start to the state title game against Legacy Prep Christian Academy. The Lady Mustangs opened on a 10-0 scoring run to close the first quarter up by 10. The Lady Lions closed the gap to just three heading into halftime. Coach Osborn’s team reclaimed control of the contest, capping off the third quarter with a 48-39 advantage and the eventual 64-53 victory to hoist the state championship.

Three Lady Mustangs made the 2025 State Tournament All-Tournament Team. Selah Fox, Jordyn Hamilton, and Jordan Stokes. All underclassmen who anchored this championship team. These three were also named to the All-District 1st Team. Fox and Stokes also earned individual honors as the TAPPS 5A District 1 Offensive Player and Newcomer of the Year, respectively.

Four additional players rounded out the All-District 2nd Team and Honorable Mention lists. Haleigh Cook and McKenzie Ramirez made the 2nd Team group. Mallory West and Amara Odukwu earned Honorable Mention nods.

This season was only Coach Osborn’s second at the helm of the program, and Midland Christian finished the year with a 30-7 record, up 13 from 2023-2024. The accolades poured in for the second-year head coach, earning Texas Association of Basketball Coaches TAPPS 5A Girls Coach of the Year and TAPPS 5A Coach of the Year honors. Additionally, her coaching staff was honored as the District Coaching Staff of the Year.

This is the second season in a row that a Midland Christian basketball program has brought the state championship back to the Tall City. The boys squad won in 2024.
