What happened: Midland claimed the top spot in PetSmart’s first-ever Most Festive Pet Cities ranking for 2025. The city led the nation in holiday spending on pet toys, treats, apparel, and accessories from the Merry and Bright collection.

The big picture: PetSmart based the list on per-store sales of holiday-exclusive items from September 2024 through early 2025. Midland far outpaced every other city, beating out places like Lexington, Kentucky, and Amarillo. Three Texas cities, Midland, Amarillo, and Lubbock, made the top ten.

PetSmart noted that nearly two-thirds of pet parents buy gifts, and half hang stockings for their pets, but in Midland, those numbers clearly run even higher.

Go deeper: The Merry and Bright collection offers hundreds of seasonal items, many priced under $10. Pet parents can still spoil their furry friends with 20 percent off sitewide at PetSmart.com through Dec. 7 with code CYBER20. Free photos with Santa return to the Midland store Dec. 13-14. Stop by for a paw-print ornament or let your pet pick out one last gift before Christmas.

What they’re saying: “These rankings show just how much pet parents are making their pets a central part of seasonal celebrations,” Matt Byrnes, senior vice president of merchandising at PetSmart, said. “It’s wonderful to see just how much families cherish their pets, and we’re proud to be part of the joyful moments they create together.”
