What happened: Greenwood earned a 60–58 non-district win over Childress on Saturday, Jan. 10, at home in a back-and-forth home game decided in the final minutes. The victory bumped the Rangers up to 14-8 for the season, while Childress fell to 10-9 overall. Jonathan Mendoza led Greenwood with 19 points, followed by Colton Rauman with 15, including three 3-pointers. Crewz Keys led Childress with 13 points.

The big picture: Greenwood opened the game with early perimeter scoring, including a first-quarter 3-pointer from Ethan Rybolt and a pair of 3s from Colton Rauman, but Childress closed the period on a late run to take an 18–15 lead after one. Childress carried that momentum into the second quarter, extending the margin behind interior scoring and a 3-pointer from Crewz Keys to carry a 30–25 halftime advantage.

Greenwood began to turn the game after the break behind Jonathan Mendoza, who scored repeatedly in the third quarter, including a late 3-pointer as the Rangers cut into the deficit. Despite the push, Childress held a 47–41 lead entering the fourth.

The Rangers delivered their decisive stretch early in the final period, using a 12–2 run to erase the deficit and take a 53–51 lead midway through the period. Rauman followed with baskets on the perimeter and at the run, and Mendoza added a late field goal to extend the margin in the final minutes. Childress stayed within one possession down the stretch, but Greenwood answered each push to secure the win.
