What happened: Midland Classical standout Mariah Davis signed with the University of Texas Permian Basin (UTPB) women’s basketball program on Wednesday, Dec. 10. Davis, a 2026 graduate and 5’7″ point and shooting guard, will continue her career in familiar territory. Her father, Demitrius Davis, played at UTPB from 2005 to 2009.

Go deeper: Davis has been dominant at Midland Classical. In November, she recorded a double-double against Midland Trinity with 36 points and 12 rebounds, shooting 57% from the field and 50% from three-point range. She also had a historic triple-double against Klondike: 24 points, 12 rebounds, 11 steals, 5 defensive rebounds, 2 blocks, and 2 assists. That performance helped her surpass 1,500 career points in high school.

She is ranked No. 2 in the nation and No. 1 in Texas for points per 32 minutes. Additionally, she is No. 12 nationally and No. 11 in Texas for total three-pointers made. Davis has earned three Defensive Player of the Year awards and maintains a 4.0 GPA.

“Dreams to reality,” Davis said on X. Ready to work and bring home the trophy to the Permian Basin! THANK YOU will never be enough to express my gratitude toward everyone who has been part of this journey. From coaches and teammates to friends, trainers, and mentors – each of you has played a special role in helping me get here. To my Mom, Dad, and family, I couldn’t have done this without you!”
