Mustangs surge in second half to beat Lubbock Christian 55–48

What happened: Midland Christian (12–3 overall) earned a 55–48 road win over Lubbock Christian (0–1) on Tuesday, Dec. 9. The Mustangs trailed by two at the break but outscored the Eagles 19–14 in the third quarter and 15–11 in the fourth to secure the victory.
Go deeper: Midland Christian was led by Cooper Johnston, who delivered a standout performance with multiple three-pointers across all four quarters, including the opening bucket of the second half to give the Mustangs a 24–23 lead. Johnston repeatedly answered Lubbock Christian’s scoring runs, keeping the Mustangs within reach early and helping build separation late.
Midland Christian added steady production from its supporting cast, knocking down threes and finishing consistently at the rim during a decisive third-quarter stretch that turned a back-and-forth game into a Mustang advantage.
Lubbock Christian opened the night strong, scoring the first points and holding a 12–11 lead at the end of the first quarter. The Eagles continued to trade baskets through the second, taking a 23–21 halftime edge. But Midland Christian responded immediately after the break behind sharp perimeter shooting and improved defensive pressure, turning the momentum and entering the fourth quarter ahead 40–37.
In the final frame, the Mustangs extended the lead with a combination of inside scoring and timely threes, including a late free throw from Johnston to cap the night. Lubbock Christian closed the gap with two fourth-quarter three-pointers, but Midland Christian held firm to finish off the 55–48 win.
