Lady Mustangs hand Grace Prep first district loss, take district lead
What happened: Midland Christian claimed first place in district with a 48–44 win over Arlington’s Grace Prep on Friday, Jan. 16, handing the Lady Lions their first district loss of the season. The Lady Mustangs improved to 6–0 in district and 22–6 overall, while Grace Prep dropped to 5–1 in district and 18–7 overall. Jordyn Hamilton led Midland Christian with 17 points, while Jordan Stokes added 13 and Selah Fox finished with 12.
The big picture: Grace Prep controlled the early moments, opening the game on a 7–2 run, but Midland Christian responded before the end of the first quarter. Selah Fox knocked down a corner 3-pointer to spark the rally, and the Lady Mustangs closed the period ahead 12–11.
The teams traded baskets throughout the second quarter. Midland Christian relied on scoring in the paint from Hamilton and Stokes, and the game remained tight as the teams went into halftime tied 22–22.
The Lady Mustangs took control after the break. Fox opened the third quarter with another corner 3, followed by back-to-back inside scores from Hamilton and Stokes. Addi Tatsch connected on a 3-pointer from the top of the key, pushing the lead to 35–28 entering the final quarter.
The Lady Lions worked their way back into the game, but Midland Christian answered early. Lauren Alvizo hit a corner 3, and the Lady Mustangs closed the game at the free-throw line, scoring eight of their 13 fourth-quarter points from the stripe.
