No. 1 Lady Mustangs roar past TCS Lady Lions 42-26
What happened: TAPPS 5A No. 1 Midland Christian earned a 42–26 district win over Lubbock Trinity Christian on Tuesday, Jan. 6. The victory moved the Lady Mustangs to 19–6 overall and 3–0 in district play, while Trinity fell to 10–17 overall and 1–3 in district. Kailey Harris led Midland Christian with 12 points, while Jordyn Hamilton added 11.
The big picture: Selah Fox opened the scoring with a 3-pointer from the top of the key, giving the Lady Mustangs an early edge as Addi Tatsch and Jordyn Hamilton established a presence in the paint. Midland Christian carried a 9–8 lead out of the first quarter.
The Lady Mustangs began to create separation in the second, outscoring Trinity Christian 9–3 as Fox connected on another 3-pointer and Hamilton, typically a post presence, stepped out and knocked down a three from the top of the key. Mallory West capped the first half with a layup, sending Midland Christian into halftime ahead 18–11.
Midland Christian continued to add to the lead after the break, outscoring Trinity Christian 14–8 in the third quarter as Kailey Harris, Lauren Alvizo, and Hamilton attacked the lane and converted inside. Alvizo added a key 3-pointer to help push the margin to 32–19 entering the fourth. In the final period, the Lady Mustangs made repeated trips to the free-throw line to close out the win and secure their third district victory.
Go deeper: The victory gave Midland Christian a full-program sweep in Lubbock, as both the boys’ and girls’ teams earned wins. Midland Christian hasn’t seen a sweep inside the Runnin’ Lions Den in several years.
