What happened: Midland High football opened its season against one of the toughest opponents in Texas, falling 49-0 to No. 1-ranked Southlake Carroll on Friday at Astound Broadband Stadium. The Bulldogs, who returned only four starters, gained valuable varsity experience in their first game of 2025.

Senior running back Izaiah Miller led the way offensively, rushing for 73 yards on 11 carries. He sparked the Bulldogs’ best drive of the night with a 15-yard gain, followed by a 12-yard run from Evan Miller that pushed MHS into Carroll territory.

On defense, Midland High created momentum by winning the turnover battle. Junior safety Carson Ham and sophomore cornerback Devin Rodriquez each came up with interceptions in the first half, stopping Carroll drives and energizing the home crowd.

Senior leader Pulelei’ite Primus anchored the offensive line, shifting from center to left guard as the Bulldogs continued to develop chemistry up front. The group, which also included Tyler Anderson, Caleb Cedillos, Jesus Garcia, and Luke Holeman, created Midland’s longest plays on the ground.

Despite the loss, Midland showed flashes of promise against the state’s top-ranked team. The Bulldogs (0-1) now turn their attention to a home matchup with El Paso Pebble Hills at 7 p.m. Sept. 5.
